So, I’ve been a Christian since I was a little girl. Asked Jesus into my heart at my parent’s bedside when I was about 7 years old. Grew up in the church. Schooled in the Bible. And yet, I had never fully realized the implications of serving a living God. Not dead. Not used-to-be-alive, floating around on some cloud wearing a halo. Not a state of mind. ALIVE. Like me. Except way better, because it is only through Him that I have life at all :)

I was watching The Ten Commandments Saturday night (best movie EVER), and the Egyptians were chasing the Israelites across the desert. In graphic, technicolor detail, God showed up time and again for the Israelites. He blocked the Egyptians with a pillar of fire while the Israelites crossed the Red Sea on dry land. (Did you hear that? A PILLAR OF FIRE.) Then He let the Egyptians follow the Israelites, only to destroy them by the crashing waves.

When Pharoah came home defeated to a dead son that his god could not resurrect, what did he say? “Moses’ God IS God.”

I’m not saying that movies should substitute good Bible-reading. I’m just saying sometimes it takes visual confirmation to hammer home certain truths for me. Sunday morning during worship, I felt the kind of joy that only a living God could give. Only a living God could deliver me from all my fears. Only a living God can give us resurrection life.
